1. Focus on protein

Protein should be the foundation of your diet. Eating a diet high in protein helps:

– Keep you full
– Prevent insulin spikes
– Prevent sugar crashes
– Maintain muscle mass
– Increase testosterone


The best protein sources are beef, poultry, fish, and eggs. Shoot for 150g per day.


2. Fasting

Fasting is one of the easiest ways to:

– Decrease insulin resistance
– Cut down how much you are eating
– Burn fat


When fasted the body will use the easiest energy source it can find, stored fat. Making fasting a regular part of your routing is one of the easiest things you can do to improve your health. Start with skipping breakfast a few times a week and one 24 hour fast every week.


3. Resistance training

The benefits of resistance training include:

– Increased testosterone
– Increased muscle mass
– Increased fat burning
– Decreased inflammation


You don’t have to spend hours in the gym to get these benefits. Spend 15 minutes a day doing pushups, pullups, and body squats. Another great option is resistance bands. You can get a whole body workout done in 20 minutes utilizing a $50 set of bands.


4. Cut carbs/sugar

Belly fat is caused primarily by insulin resistance. This is caused by carbs/sugar. You need to reduce them dramatically to reverse the damage of years of poor eating habits. You don’t have to be keto, but start with less than 100g of carbs per day.

5. No sugary drinks

This goes with #4, but needs to be stated separately. Sugary drinks are the absolute worst thing for your health. This includes things like fruit juices. They are instantly turned into fat by the liver. This fat is deposited in the liver and belly.


6. Limit alcohol

Heavy alcohol consumption significantly increases your risk of developing central obesity (belly fat). There is a reason it is called a “beer belly”. If you want to lose belly fat consider drinking only in moderation or, better yet, abstaining completely.


7. Decrease stress levels

Increased stress increases the production of cortisol. Higher cortisol levels drive fat to be stored in your abdomen. Cortisol will also increase your appetite and sugar cravings. Find ways to reduce your stress levels, meditation, yoga, sports, etc.


8. Get plenty of sleep

Studies have shown that people who sleep less are much more likely to be overweight. Not getting enough sleep:

Increases insulin resistance
Increases cortisol
Slows down metabolism

Make sure to give yourself enough time to get 8+ hours of solid sleep.


9. Use apple cider vinegar

In a 12-week study men who took 1 tbsp of ACV per day lost an average of half an inch off their waist, lost weight, and decreased triglycerides compared to placebo. Add 1 tbsp to water 2-3 times per day, preferably before meals.
